Vitamin B12 Shots and Vitamin B12 Deficiency Information
63
There are many people in the world who suffer from a vitamin B12 deficiency and need vitamin B12 shots in order to maintain a normal life. The worst part about that is the fact that a great deal of people do not even realize what the problem is and are doing nothing to relieve their symptoms. Vitamin B12 deficiency symptoms can be very mild or massive, depending on the seriousness of the deficiency. Another reason that B12 is not found as the problem is because of the fact that the symptoms that can exist are very comparable to other medical problems. Some of the symptoms that a person with B12 deficiency may experience are chronic tiredness and lack of energy, digestion problems such as a sudden inability to eat or drink certain things, poor cognitive function, memory loss, and headaches. This is a pretty broad range of symptoms. All of these symptoms can be associated with other diseases and also just with simply not being in good shape. Many times, if you go to see a physician with these kinds of problems, they will not take the necessary steps to check your B12 levels.
Vitamin B12 levels can be accurately measured in a patient only by performing a blood test. This test will produce the results as an enzyme count of the B12 that is in each cell. Too many times a doctor will never check for this kind of problem unless they have reason to believe that this is the underlying cause of the symptoms. Vitamin B12 deficiency is yet to be proved as a genetic disorder. There are not enough links to prove that this problem can be passed down through heredity. However, there are studies that show a patient is more likely to have this problem if one or more of their parents are diabetic. Scientists are not sure of why that seems to be the case or why there are links between the two diseases.
Vitamin B12 deficiency is more common in people who are over the age of fifty. This is because the enzymes that the body produces to help your body absorb B12 from the food that you eat break down and become less abundant as a person gets older. It is not as common to find people who are younger with low b12 levels in their blood. However, there are many cases of this as well.
If you believe that you may have a vitamin B12 problem, it is very important for you to talk to your doctor. You should insist that they run the necessary tests to be sure that that is the problem. If you are found to have a deficiency, you will likely be given B12 injections or shots as a means to keep your levels up. A doctor will most generally have you come to their office for the shots on a regular basis. The B12 serum can also be prescribed in some circumstances. This will enable a patient to give the shots that they need to themselves. A vitamin B12 shot is usually rather inexpensive and will typically cost a patient about $15 for each injection, if they have to pay for it out of pocket.
Within a very short amount of time of taking B12 shots, you should notice a major difference in the way that you feel. You will get your energy back, concentrate easier, and sleep better as well. It may take some time to get the right dosage that you need into your body. Once you do, you will have your life back as it was before the problem occurred.
