Is Your Cat Destroying Your Furniture? Get it a Turbo Scratcher!

The Bergan Turbo Scratcher is a flat, circular cat toy. There is a hollowed out channel that is open on top where a ball can be batted along the channel by the cat. In the middle of the Turbo Scratcher cat toy is a flat cardboard disk that is filled with honeycombs. Catnip can be placed inside the honeycombs, which encourages cats to use the disk as a scratching post. Turbo Scratchers come in a variety of colors, such as blue, purple, teal and green. They can be found at local retail stores such as Wal-Mart or online. The Turbo Scratcher comes with the honeycomb disk and ball that fits in the outer channel. Although catnip comes with the product, you will need to buy extra. Replacement scratching post disks are also available.

I have had many cats over the course of my life. The two cats that I currently have are 6 years old and have had a turbo scratcher for the majority of their lives. They absolutely love the toy. Although they spend quite a bit of time batting the ball around, they spend the greatest amount of time with the scratching post. Neither one of my cats have their front claws removed, and I needed a way for them to be able to sharpen their claws without destroying my living room furniture. I have tried other scratching posts; the round cylindrical posts with a ball on a spring, the flat scratching post that hangs from a doorknob, and the scratching post attached to a kitty condo. While my cats would show some interest at a new toy, they would quickly grow tired of it, even if it was infused with catnip. The Turbo Scratcher, however, is a different story. My cats have gone through a lot of replacement disks.

Another one of the reasons this product is so good is that it does not take up a lot of space like other scratching posts. The flat shape allows you to store it under furniture or turn it on its side and slide it into small spaces. You can easily remove the center disks and store them in plastic bags in order to keep the catnip fresh and off of your carpet and floor. The Turbo Scratcher is reasonably priced (I have found it for $10) and the replacement disks are relatively inexpensive (around $7 for 2 disks). If you have more than one cat, you can afford to purchase more than one Turbo Scratcher. In order to add variety to your cat's playtime, you can also put other cat toys into the channel surrounding the center disk. I found that my cats were entertained when you placed catnip mice in the channel. It allows the cat to bat around their "prey" in familiar territory. You can also purchase small balls made from colorful material that makes a crinkling sound. Those fit nicely into the channel around the Turbo Scratching Post.

Overall, the cat Turbo Scratcher is a fun and entertaining toy for cats that are young and old. It is inexpensive and will encourage your cat to exercise and to scratch on something other than your carpeting.
