Toddler Beds - So Many Options!

If your child is able to climb out of his or her crib without help but is not ready to sleep in an adult size bed because it is too far off the ground, then a toddler bed may be the right choice. Toddler beds provide safety and security for a child and come in a variety of styles.
Typically, toddler beds are for children who are around 3 years of age or older and weigh 50 pounds or less. There are a lot of styles to choose from when choosing a toddler bed. One option is to buy a crib that converts to a toddler bed and then into a headboard and a footboard for a full size bed. The advantage to this bed is that a child can use it throughout their lives.
If you do not want to purchase a convertible crib, there are still a lot of choices for toddler beds. One of the choices you have is a toddler daybed. This type of bed looks like a miniature version of an adult bed.
Another option is to have a toddler bed that features a child’s favorite character. Typically, these beds are made from a sturdy molded plastic and have to be assembled. There is usually a picture of a character on the bed and built-in railings near the headboard. These beds typically cost around $50 without a mattress or bedding. They can be found at many retailers. And why not buy a princess toddler bed for your little princess?
Yet another option for toddler bedding is a bed in the shape of a car, truck, fire engine or other item. These beds are made from one molded piece of plastic or wood. I’m sure your little tyke would love to go to sleep in a fire engine toddler bed or a toddler car bed.
Besides the choices of a vehicle or character on a toddler bed, there are also toddler beds made out of wood that look like a smaller version of an adult bed. With some of the beds described above, there is enough clearance under the bed to fit a trundle drawer. A trundle drawer provides extra storage for sheets, clothing or toys. Toddler beds are meant to be used with a crib mattress and bedding. There is also toddler bedding sets available for purchase in retail stores and online.
Besides a decision on the style of toddler bed, safety is always a concern. One option on a toddler bed is railings. Some toddler beds come with railings built into the bed frame. If the bed does not come with railings or only has railings on one side, there are railings available for purchase that slide underneath a mattress and are easily secured. Another important step after purchasing a toddler bed is to register the product, if it is available. Registering a product will allow the consumer to be informed if there is a recall or repair that needs to be made.
Helping a toddler choose a bed and bedding will help them make an important transition. While a toddler may not be ready for an adult sized bed, a toddler bed will help them move from a crib to a secure sleeping area where the risk of falling out of a tall crib or taller bed is eliminated.
