Benefits of Installing a Sun Shade

There are many areas of the home that encourage families to spend time together. One of the traditional areas people tend to gather is the porch. This may take the form of the time honored front veranda, a back deck, or even a sun porch off the living room or kitchen.
Regardless of where they are located or what they're called porches are a natural gathering place and a good area to keep the family connected. Porches always have a least one side open to the outdoors. This may explain our tendency to congregate there. We all like to feel close to nature. Unfortunately nature is not always hospitable. There may be many times you would like to set on the porch but the sun is just too hot or the wind is blowing a little too hard. At times like these, a handy thing to have would be a porch sun shade.
As the name implies these handy things will block the sun, providing shade and helping you to enjoy a nice day out on the porch. They can also block wind and even rain from invading your porch. They will increase the amount of time you can comfortably spend enjoying your porch.
Patio sun shades come in many different varieties and configurations. Some are shades made of plastic, wood or even bamboo that roll up out of the way with a cord. Other shades are similar in construction to inside household shades that roll up and down with the aid of a spring located in a tube at the top of the shade. Regardless of construction, all good porch sun shades will be made with material that will withstand outdoor use. Many are even treated with a UV inhibitor to prevent the sun from deteriorating the fabric.
Installing an outdoor sun shade is fairly simple and straightforward. Most have hooks or some other hardware located at the top to hang them from your porch. Installation consists of merely finding the place you want them to hang and driving nails or screws into the porch header in the proper places. Once the sun shade canopy is hung in place, be sure to roll the shade up and down to check for ease of movement and that nothing is in the way to prevent the shade from going up and down.
When using your porch during sunny days, simply roll the patio sun shade down. Not only will it keep the sun out of your eyes it will decrease the temperature on the porch to make it more comfortable. If it decides to rain, a porch shade will help keep a light rain or mist from ruining your day sitting on the porch. It is always a good idea when not using the porch to roll up a shade to keep the weather from damaging it.
There are also many styles of shades to match any decor or porch style you may have. A sun shade is a wonderful and stylish way to increase the utility and comfort of any porch.
