A trundle bed is a popular form of bed, especially for children. Though not quite as popular as the bunk bed, the trundle bed offers a bit more class and sophistication to a room since it appears as a single bed most of the time. A trundle bed is a bed that has a second one stowed away underneath it. Usually the second bed will pull out similar to a large under the bed drawer. There are no box springs in the trundle bed set so this factor can save shoppers money. There only needs to be two mattresses. The trundle bed was invented to save space in spots where a second bed would only be needed occasionally.

There are a variety of different types of trundle beds. The most common type of trundle bed is the twin trundle bed. These are most often used for children. These beds are very beneficial for families that want a second bed for occasional sleepovers without having to take up extra space or make two beds every morning. They generally pull out to the side creating a slightly smaller than twin bed next to the twin. There are also full size trundle beds and trundle day beds.

The trundle bed is extremely versatile. The bottom mattress can be removed from most trundle beds to allow the spot to be used for storage space for other things. This is an extra bonus to the trundle bed. If you later decide you don't need or want a second bed the space can be utilized for hidden storage. This spot would be great for storing linens, winter clothing, or guest towels. Many people purchase used trundle beds specifically to utilize the space underneath as a large hidden storage chest. Their versatility is a huge part of their appeal.

Many newer trundle beds are pop up trundle beds. This is a great addition to guestrooms because it allows a small bed to be instantly converted into a larger bed. The pop up trundle bed works by having the second bed slide out and then pop up to the height of the original bed, instead of being below the original bed as a traditional trundle bed would. This allows you to adjust your guestroom to the guests without having to use extra space to accommodate a full or king size bed. You can have a twin size bed for guests who are single or for when the room is not in use. Then instantly you can have a king or full size bed for couples.

The trundle bed is a great space saving design. They offer the space saving capacity of a small bed with the sleeping and versatility of a large bed. They are great for guest rooms, sleepovers, or just small spaces. They are reported to be extremely comfortable as well. These beds have been around for quite a while. They are particularly popular with children and college students. They are far classier than bunk beds but with the same benefits.
