All About Jewelry Boxes
By O-Guy
Jewelry boxes come in a large variety of shapes, sizes and styles. Choosing the right one depends solely on your fashion preferences and the jewelry you plan to store in it. Every jewelry box is different in some way so take the time to look around so you can find that dream box.
Tall boxes are needed for necklaces to avoid entanglement. They will have hanging hooks that will either be attached to the walls of the box or on a spindle connected to the roof. Though not all tall jewelry boxes have these hooks it is definitely something to look into if you have necklaces that you want to keep safe.
Drawers may also be an important factor as most anything can be placed in them. They come in an assortment of widths and depths on different jewelry boxes so it is all a matter of your needs. To avoid scratched on those special pendants and brooches you may want the drawers to have cushions or protective cloth lining. Many jewelry boxes come with these options included in the drawers but if yours doesn't it can always be added later.
Rings are very important and there are special sections made just for this purpose. This area can be a drawer or a lift lid and they look a lot like a large ring box. It will have the special cushion that holds the rings individually to prevent scratching or bending. This is most vital for rings to keep their shape and shine.
Although wooden jewelry boxes are the most common and more traditional there are different options on the market today. Fabric or leather jewelry boxes are lovely for someone who prefers not to actually keep their jewelry on display. These, typically made from leather or suede, tend to look more like a purse. They can be found as one large compartment, or they can have multiple layers. The layers will be either removable or slide to the front or side in order to expose the lowers areas.
In addition to these options that usually catch the eye of adults there are also jewelry boxes made to attract that of young girls. It may be something as simple as a small heart or star shaped box or a more traditional style box painted with princesses or ballerinas. The smaller shaped boxes are simple and great for a girl who just wants something to put her bracelets and earrings in. They can come in a number of shapes and designs from painted a single color to multicolored to being covered in fabric, sequence or other gems. The traditional style girls jewelry box is designed the same ways as the adult's boxes only they are decorated to appeal to the younger generation.
A musical jewelry box, a beautiful choice, may be a little more difficult to find, however. They play music when the lid is lifted or removed and sometimes even have a dancer that spins on a pedestal. These, along with the traditional style, make wonderful family heirlooms, passing down from generation to generation. A musical box can be especially enjoyed between a mother and daughter as it can be made to play that special tune shared between the two.
A jewelry box is a very special and important addition to life, whether it is for a girl or a woman. The choice should be made carefully so that years of use can be enjoyed. Jewelry boxes can be made with doors, drawers and lids or even just one of the options. With a little digging, you can find anything, or you can have it personally designed to meet your desires.
